WINEMAKER’S NOTES:
The Mt. Veeder AVA is one of Napa Valley’s mountain AVAs, with some vineyards planted over 2,000 feet elevation. Mt. Veeder is a cooler climate mountain region, heavily influenced by cool bay breezes and fog. Mt. Veeder is a heavily forested region and most vineyards are ringed by tall majestic redwood forests. Wines from Mt. Veeder typically show refined elegance and age gracefully. Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder tend to have strong violet aromas, which is a signature of the region.
The 2016 vintage began with very little rain, bud break occurred between the end of February and early March. With warm and dry spring and early summer, the vines develop healthy canopies and fruit set was balanced. The growing season was lengthened due to cool summer. September had a few heat spikes to push fruit to optimal sugar levels. The 2016 vintage was very balanced and ideal for producing wines with excellent flavor and resolved tannins.
